Poetry from the Heart
Give the gift of love and friendship

Hiking the High (and lonesome) Paiute
Trail
Walking stick high
Across my shoulder
Moving up off
The valley floor
Into the cool, breezy
Mountain air
Head down
Climbing, climbing
Reaching for
Eternity
Grab a boulder
Look
Ahead
A
Figure moves
Oh so slowly,
Deliberately
She comes
Face smothered
With wrinkles
Lips flaccid
Hair like
The billowing
Clouds
A Paiute
Woman
Stone faced
Evil sparkle in
Her eyes
Silent words
“What gives?
Flirtatious?
Mischievous?
Malicious?
What gives here?”
“Maun’-Naa’-Hoo!”
she shouts,
“You’re older than me!”
Laughter meets
laughter
crashing, bouncing
off the canyon walls
